The Future of Our World

This is a fantastic video I watched that I had to share as it talks about the future of our world particularly with regards to technology in the not too distant future, meaning around 10 to 20 years time.

With talk on the world ending within a few days I’ve become extremely curious about the future of our world.  Notice I’m not swallowing this end of the world hogwash!

I watched the film ‘Back to the Future 2′ where it shows Marty McFly going to the future.  The part that was a shock to me was the fact that the year he went to waaay in the future was actually only 2015!  So a mere 2 and a bit years away.  I remember watching that film as a kid and thinking, ‘Wow, that’s ages away! I wonder what the world will be like then?’

As it turns out there are likely to be a large number of inaccuracies in that film compared to what 2015 will actually be like in reality.  I don’t see the likelihood of us all driving round in hover cars and teens using hover boards happening within that timeframe.  However it fair to say ‘Back to the Future 2′ was far more accurate than the likes of a show like ‘Quantum Leap’.  The main character from the latter show, Sam Beckett was in fact supposedly from the year 1999 lol!  We definitely have a massive amount of catching up to do if we are to get in line with that.

There are of course some things that are still pretty spot on when it comes to watching ‘Back to the Future 2′ namely the ability to call someone on screen anywhere in the world.  Otherwise known as Skype.  Also the niche forms of advertising you now see in everyday life.

The big difference between ‘Back to the Future’ and this video is BTTF was written by science fiction writers.  This video however shows an actual scientist namely Dr Michio Kaku, talking about where things are actually going and where we are very likely to be within perhaps as little into the future as 15 years time.

As an artist and music producer, I will say that one thing this video has got me thinking about, is where music production will go in the decades to come.  20 years ago no one would have dreamed that we would be able to do so much with a simple laptop computer.  Doing away with a lot of the original hardware once deemed necessary.  One can only marvel at the potential of the future.  Based on this video my guess is that computers as we know them will be done away with almost entirely and as producers of the future, we will instead be able to create our music anytime anywhere without having to carry anything at all with the exception of perhaps a small contact lens.

Anyway here’s the video I found, I hope you enjoy it.  It’s quite long but I personally found all the info on there enthralling.  Expect interesting talk on intelligent wall paper, crocodiles containing the immortality gene (ok probably grossly paraphrasing there) and starships.
